Carlos' Swimming Reflection

We now have a pool at our school and also a man called Chris has come to teach us to swim.
I enjoyed playing water polo with Chris, Ben and Matt. I think that it is so cool to have a pool at our school. I also think that I'm the best swimmer! Ha ha (Jokes) I wish I could be the best swimmer though.
Wow! With all of this swimming thing going on, we're having fun trying water polo, snorkeling, surf lifesaving and triathlon. I hope I do well at the Weetbix Triathlon.

Makalita's Reflection on 2010

This year I have really enjoyed going to camp, I especially liked skating and swimming. I would still like to learn more about volcanoes and Mighty Mariners. I think that I could have worked harder on writing and art, because sometimes it was too hard.
My favourite memory from year five was going to One Tree Hill on our team trip.
I know that I have improved in reading and maths because when I learn I like it quiet and to be by myself.

During this term Rooms 13, 14, 15 & 16 have been lucky enough to have special Baseball lessons. We had a professional player, called Cola come every week on a Thursday to show us baseball drills, skills and teach us how to play the game. Last week we were lucky enough to play against the other classes in a mini tournament - even the teacher's had to play! Here is a movie to show you what we got up to.

(Don't forget to watch right to the end of the movie, you're in for a special treat.)

Donyae's Swimming Thoughts

On the courts a strange thing came to our school. It was a brand new swimming pool!
I was so worried when I first got in to the pool, but it was warm and I thought I was in heaven!
I have enjoyed swimming and I learnt how to float on my back without splashing.

Michael's Swimming Reflection

I enjoyed having the pool on the netball court by rooms 14 and 13. Room 13 likes swimming on the pool on Tuesdays. We practiced lots of things like kicking. Thanks Chris for helping us swim.

Mateo's Swimming Reflection

The best thing ever in our pool was swimming and diving. The pool is right next to rooms 12, 13 and 14, so when we get changed we can go there straight away.
Chris taught us swimming every Tuesday. We learnt so much about swimming, but I wish I could learn some more.
The pool was cold the first time, but we got in anyway and swam around, it eventually warmed up.

Swimming Lessons by Moala

In the swimming pool I enjoyed swimming with my class. I liked it when Chris showed us how to swim. I learnt a lot.
I really wanted to go snorkelling, but I was too late to sign up.
Thank you Chris so much.

Disaster Day at Pt England School

Click here to find out about our 'Disaster Day' yesterday. We are currently working on our recounts to tell you about this experience from our point of view.

An information report about Maungakiekie

General Statement
Maungakiekie is the maori name for One Tree Hill. One Tree Hill is the largest volcano in the Auckland field. This Mountain is a porminent landmark which means it is important to New Zealanders.

Description

Maungakiekie was formed about 40, 000 to 50, 000 years ago. One Tree Hill has beautiful grassy slopes and gardens. This Mountain had a pine tree at the top near the tower but it got chopped down about ten years ago. When your on the top of One Tree Hill you get a 360-degree view of Auckland city.

Location
One Tree Hill is situated with in Cornwall Park. The surrounding suburbs are Onehunga, Greenlane and Epsom. To get to the top of the summit you can walk, run, bike or drive up.

Conclustion

Maungakiekie is such a large volcano that it has 3 craters. It is unlikely to erupt again instead an eruption will take place in another location.

By Serena
For writing we have been learning to write information reports. This has worked in well with our Active Earth topic. All our information reports have been about volcanoes in the Auckland Volcanic Field.

Mount Wellington

General Statement
Mount Wellington is our local mountain. This means that it is the closest mountain to us. We have a dormant volcano that won't erupt anytime soon.

Description
Mount Wellington is the youngest volcano onshore. This volcano was formed by an eruption about 9000 years ago. The mountain is 135 metres high and you can get up to the top by walking.

Location
You can see Mount Wellington in the Auckland volcanic field. There are lots of suburb surrounding Mount Wellington like Panmure and Glen Innes. Mount Wellington is 10 kilometres southeast from Auckland City.

Conclusion
Maungarei is moari for Mount Wellington and translated as the watchful mountain. Moari used this area as a village so if their enemy is coming they can get ready to fight. Mount Wellington is unlikely to erupt again.
